“New” volunteers

Cornelia Hürzeler counts penguins. Not in the Antarctic but in Zurich, on the online research platform Zooniverse. She likes penguins and says that counting them is like an Easter egg hunt for her. “You never know what you’ll find in the next picture”, says the sociologist and founder of vitamin B with a smile.

She is optimistic about the future of volunteering. “I believe that social engagement is going to increase in the coming years. Projects that let you get involved when it best suits you are the ones that will be successful in the future.” That is also the conclusion of the GDI study “The new volunteers – the future of civic participation".
